Following a successful inaugural edition, Singapore Space Summit is set to return in February 2027. AAIS will once again be the Association Partner and was pleased to participate in a media roundtable on 4 August, in anticipation of the Summit.
Alongside Experia Managing Director Leck Chet Lam and ecosystem representatives, AAIS Chief Executive Mr Chew Hwee Yong took the opportunity to share updates on Singapore’s growing space capabilities, emerging applications and opportunities for greater international collaboration.
Singapore’s space ecosystem today comprises more than 70 companies and over 2,000 professionals and researchers, with capabilities spanning satellite technologies, propulsion, communications, Earth observation, space situational awareness and downstream applications. With the establishment of the National Space Agency of Singapore (NSAS) this year, the sector is also entering the next phase of development, supported by growing industry, research and government engagement.
For AAIS, the focus is on connecting capabilities with opportunities—bringing together industry, government and academia in Singapore, while connecting the ecosystem with international partners, markets and resources. This includes facilitating industry exchanges and business engagements, building international partnerships, raising Singapore’s voice in regional and global space discussions, and supporting talent development.
Connecting the New Space Economy
Singapore Space Summit 2027 will take place under the theme “Connecting the New Space Economy: Where Space, Connectivity and Economic Resilience Converge”, bringing together industry, government, research institutions, investors and international partners to explore the technologies and partnerships shaping the next phase of the global space economy.
The programme will cover areas including the commercialisation of space technologies, dual-use applications and technological sovereignty, orbital sustainability, AI-powered digital twins, and space security and cyber resilience. A Heads of Space Agencies (HOSA) Panel will also bring together national space agency leaders for discussions on the future of the global space sector.
The media roundtable highlighted Singapore’s growing research and talent pipeline. Professor Wen Yonggang from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) shared research efforts on space-based data centres, while Professor Alexander Ling from the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) highlighted developments in quantum communications, commercial applications in the space sector, and spin-off companies. Mr Eugene Ee from the National University of Singapore (NUS) Engineering Design and Innovation Centre (EDIC) showcased efforts in the development and placement of young space talents through hands-on projects and industry engagement.
Together, these perspectives reflect the increasingly close links between research, industry and talent development in Singapore’s space ecosystem.
Showcasing Singapore at the Singapore Pavilion
AAIS will once again be working with the organisers on the Singapore Pavilion, providing a platform for homegrown space enterprises to showcase their technologies and expertise to international partners and investors, while engaging directly with international delegations. The Pavilion is expected to be larger this year, featuring a broader representation of Singapore companies and a wider range of capabilities.
Beyond the exhibition, AAIS will facilitate bilateral meetings, multilateral discussions, and ecosystem exchanges with international delegations. As observed at the inaugural Summit, such conversations continue beyond the event, fostering partnerships, business opportunities, and deeper international collaboration.
Looking ahead, AAIS will continue to support the sector by connecting space technology companies with end users, helping translate research and innovation into commercial opportunities, and fostering dialogue between industry and academia on future talent needs.
Through these efforts, AAIS aims to support Singapore’s growing connections with space agencies, partners, opportunities and markets around the world, and Singapore’s position as a place for the global space community to connect, collaborate and do business in Asia.
