About the Course:
Introduction to Pyrometry is designed to explain the pyrometry requirements for heat treatment in aerospace based on AMS2750. This covers the detailed requirements for temperature sensors, instrumentation and instrument calibrations, furnace classifications, system accuracy tests, and temperature uniformity surveys.

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of pyrometric controls applicable to heat treatment
  • Discuss the application of pyrometric controls within the typical heat treatment facility
  • Explain the intent and interpretation of AMS2750
Who Should Attend?
Any person who is involved in pyrometry, especially those responsible for managing or testing heat treatment equipment, will benefit from this course.

NOTE: It is recommended that participants bring a copy of the AMS2750 to class for reference.

Course Content:
  • Overview of AMS 2750, associated requirements, and what a heat treater will need to consider and implement to ensure compliance.
  • Basic temperature sensors (thermocouples), applications for sensors, considerations for the working environment, sensor verification and using sensors effectively.
  • Instrument requirements to include standard instruments, test instruments, controlling/monitoring/recording instruments, how heat treat furnaces are identified for furnace class and instrumentation type, and more.
  • How to conduct System Accuracy Tests (SAT) using pictorial furnace examples, calculating SAT results, SAT frequency, SAT waivers, and records/reports, and more.
  • When a Temperature Uniformity Survey (TUS) is required, test temperatures, how to conduct the TUS using pictorial furnace examples, how to use the results, TUS failures, use of offsets, retort furnaces, requirements for the TUS report.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate of attendance from PRI.

About the Instructor:

Mr Lum Chee Soon, eQuaLearn Instructor, PRI
Lum has 29 years of experience in Quality and Special processes with a major US multi-national aerospace prime with last appointment as Manufacturing Transition Manager. Joined the Nadcap auditing program in 2004 and is currently a Lead Auditor and Trainer for Heat Treating, Chemical Processing, Non-Conventional Machining, Surface Enhancement, and Aerospace Quality Systems.

He is a former trainer, founding member of the SQI Certified Quality Supervisor course. Lum served on the Executive and Education Sub-Committee of the S’pore Quality Institute. He is also a founding member of the Heat Treat Society- S’pore Chapter, American Society for Metals. Lum retired as a senior member of American Society for Quality and was a Certified Quality Technician, Engineer, and Auditor.
