The Singapore UAS Community by AAIS participated in a joint maritime-aviation event organised by Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on 27 Nov 2025.
Billed as the ‘Maritime Drone Workshop’, it was an opportunity to hear from both the maritime and drone communities represented by the Singapore Shipping Association, Singapore UAS Community, and our respective members. The aim was to identify opportunities for maritime use cases for drones and understand how these can be facilitated.
Deputy Chief Executive MPA, David Foo and Senior Director and CTO CAAS, Kah Han Tan addressed participants, speaking of the potential of maritime drone services and impact on port operations.
SSA Council Member Lakbir Singh spoke about maritime use cases, e.g. how drones could complement launch boats for shore-to-ship deliveries, improving efficiency and safety, while alleviating the tight manpower situation. This was followed by a quick round of presentations by UAS companies on their maritime solutions.

A discussion ensued, moderated by SSA Executive Director, Chun How Loh, with Panellists: AAIS Chief Executive K.Y. Sia, Director MPA Vince TAN and Director CAAS Chun Wei Tan. The Panel noted how maritime drone operations would need the effort of the whole ecosystem to be impactful and sustainable. It also spoke of safety, operational risks and how these could be addressed through regulation, standards, an unmanned traffic management system, and operator training.
The Workshop concluded with expressions of interest in further discussions, to promote collaboration between both sectors.
