As nations and businesses expand their presence in space, the ability to control and regulate space-based assets—satellites, data, and infrastructure—is seen as a critical factor in economic competitiveness, security, and scientific progress. This seminar co-organised on 6 June 2025 with the French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (FCCS) focused on how international space innovation was being shaped by concerns over sovereignty.
During the panel discussion, Mr Jonathan Hung, Executive Director of Singapore’s national space office (OSTIn) and ME7 Jinghua Guo of the Digital Intelligence Service of the Singapore Armed Forces spoke of Singapore’s pragmatic approach to the topic. ME7 Guo noted that Singapore has participated in multilateral space-related platforms as no one single country has all the space-based assets and capabilities to address potential global challenges. Mr Hung added that OSTIn has supported commercial companies to collaborate internationally on space innovation and to access key services (eg. launch services).
Mr Hugue Pavie of Airbus Defense and Space, and Mr Francois Dubrulle of Qosmosys shared their experiences working internationally. Mr Pavie spoke of the necessity to observe relevant regional and national laws while Mr Dubrulle highlighted that political realities prevailed over everything and agreed that businesses have to be cognisant of such constraints on projects.
AAIS thanks FCCS and all the distinguished panel speakers for the engaging and insightful seminar.
