In conjunction with a visit by a trade delegation from the Malaysian state of Selangor, AAIS facilitated an exclusive dialogue with its members on 1 August 2024 at Orchard Hotel Singapore. Sponsored by Selangor Aviation Innovation and Technology Sdn Bhd (SELATI), the event featured the Honorable Dr Mohamad Fahmi bin Ngah, Selangor State Exco for Islamic Affairs, Halal Industry, Cultural Innovation, Science Technology & Innovation. It provided a platform for AAIS members and the Singapore UAS Community to learn about the latest developments in Selangor’s aerospace, UAS, and AAM ecosystem, and to network with key officials, including representatives from the Selangor State Government, Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporation (MBI) and SmartSel Sdn Bhd.

The event commenced with welcome remarks from AAIS President Wong Yue Jeen, who emphasized the importance of collaboration in driving innovation and growth for aerospace, UAS, and AAM in the region. YB Dr Mohamad Fahmi echoed this sentiment in his opening address, where he invited aerospace companies to explore business opportunities in Selangor, assuring them of the state’s support in developing these sectors.

 

Following the opening remarks, Mr Jamie Haniff Ramlee, Managing Director of SELATI, provided an insightful briefing on Selangor’s aerospace, UAM, and AAM industries. His presentation covered ambitious plans for the Selangor Aerospace Park, a 2,000-acre industrial zone near Kuala Lumpur International Airport, and the Subang Airport Regeneration Plan, which aims to transform Subang into a city airport, attracting business and general aviation. Mr Jamie also discussed the Selangor Drone Centre of Excellence (SDCOE), which is being developed by SELATI to offer facilities for rigorous drone testing and development, innovation, and collaboration among industry players. He highlighted the Malaysian government’s initiatives and policies that support aerospace and drone technology.

 

Dr Leo Jeoh, CEO of STATE Aviation Pte Ltd then provided an update on the UAS sector development in Singapore. His session covered various topics, including industry development, policy and regulations, the current state of the Singapore UAS industry, UAS test beds, UTM developments, advanced air mobility, and opportunities in the sector. Following that, Dr Jeoh moderated an interactive Q&A and dialogue session, where participants engaged with Y.B. Dr. Mohamad Fahmi and the Selangor delegates. This session facilitated a robust exchange of ideas and insights, discussions on economic and industry development plans, addressing challenges, and exploring opportunities for collaboration and growth.

 

To conclude the event, AAIS President presented tokens of appreciation, to YB Dr Fahmi Ngah, Mr Jamie Haniff Ramlee, and Dr Leo Jeoh. In return, the Selangor delegation presented a token to AAIS. The formal programme concluded with a networking tea reception, providing attendees with the opportunity to continue their discussions and forge new connections in an informal setting.
