The Association of Aerospace Industries (Singapore) (AAIS) and ASTM International formalised a partnership on 23 January 2025, through the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) which aims to promote greater exchange of information and participation of Singapore’s aerospace industry in the international standards-setting process. The MoC was signed by AAIS Chief Executive Sia Kheng Yok and ASTM International President Andrew G. Kireta Jr during the latter’s visit to Singapore.

The signing ceremony was attended by other representatives, including AAIS President Wong Yue Jeen, AAIS 1VP Pang Yong Kiang, ASTM Vice President for Global Cooperation Teresa Cendrowska, ASTM Director for Asia Elvin Chia, and Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) Director, Technology, Engineering & Planning, Unmanned Systems Group, Tan Chun Wei.

In his opening remarks, AAIS President  emphasised the critical role of safety, regulatory directives, and compliance in aerospace operations. He welcomed ASTM’s initiatives to raise awareness and encourage industry involvement in the standards-setting process. Mr Tan shared the regulator’s perspective on establishing standards for emerging sectors such as Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), highlighting the importance and challenges of getting involvement, fostering adaptation and adoption of these standards.

Mr Kireta and Ms Cendrowska in turn provided an overview of ASTM International’s mission and work, detailing its global standards development efforts across industries, including aerospace, space, UAS, and AAM. The discussions identified potential collaboration areas, such as standards development and proliferation in the areas of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFs), UAS, and AAM. The representatives also explored the possibilities of working together towards the international adoption of locally developed standards. Both parties also expressed interest in co-organising events with CAAS and AAIS to further these efforts.

Following the MOC signing, Mr Kireta signed the AAIS guest book and was briefed on the latest developments at Seletar Aerospace Park.
